ICDI has developed a Concept paper for a multifunctional and integrated complex for children with disabilities in Bulgaria. Situated in the historic spa town of Bankya, the complex will integrate health, play and learning, and social services to provide holistic support to children (0 to 12 years) and families, enhancing access to quality services, inclusion, and children’s outcomes.

The Concept paper was informed by a needs analysis conducted by For Our Children Foundation.  Research activities conducted by ICDI included an analysis of international research and policy for early intervention and integrated services for young children with disabilities and developmental delay; site visit and discussions with staff;  interviews with four international experts working in design, management and education in specialised services for young children; researching European case studies of good practice;and developing recommendations for architectural and interior design and quality assurance processes, outlines how the vision for the Complex will be realised in practice.
