From 7 to 10 November, ICDI’s Nico van Oudenhoven contributed to a knowledge/experience exchanging workshop with 25 educators/psychologists working in family homes of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH). In a range of Central and Latin American countries, including Haiti, this organization provides high quality long-term care and education to children whose families miss the possibilities to do so. The sessions focused on mental health issues, including recognizing and preventing (risk of) sexual violence and suicide amongst children and adolescents. The participants appreciated the interactive sessions delivered by Nico. Information, insights and recommendations will certainly benefit the children and young people under Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos’ care. Dutch organization Wereldouders, long time partner of NPH, financially supported the training.
