Launch of the research report and short movie “Happy young learners in Ethiopia”

We are coming to the end of the UPSI-5 project in Ethiopia. On top of all the findings and recommendations we have shared in the research report, we also got to experience what a fantastic and hard job making a short movie on location is!

It all started at the end of 2017, when we started collaborating with the Mamedia college in Amsterdam to shoot a movie about the psychosocial well-being of 5 year-old children in Ethiopia. Our goal was that the messages from the research would reach parents, teachers, and others who can make a real difference in young children’s lives.

The short movie, “Happy young learners in Ethiopia” was successfully  launched 2 weeks ago in Ethiopia by our local partner ESD through a screening to teachers, parents, teacher educators and policymakers in the same districts where the movie was recorded and the research was done – Debre Birhan and Deneba in the Amhara region and Sidama in SNNPR region.

Today we launched the movie in the Netherlands

For the occasion, people from partner organizations working in the field of children development joined us at our office in Leiden. It was a great opportunity to discuss the project, advocacy strategies and talk about new collaborations.

We would like to thank all the people who attended, Marlijn van Rossum and Lisbeth Zuidema of the Mamedia college who shot the movie, and Stichting Dioraphte for financing the project.
