NEWS: First training after-school programme refugee centre

ICDI’s Mathijs Euwema and Rutger van Oudenhoven gave the first training for the team of the new NEST in the refugee centre in Burgum, in the North of The Netherlands. NEST is an after-school programme for 6-12 year-old children living in refugee centres. The main goal of NEST is to offer children a safe, warm place, in which they can build a trusting relationship with staff and volunteers and do all kinds of activities, to strengthen their resilience. Together with Kinderpostzegels ICDI developed the Nest-model in Bosnia. Now it is implemented by Stichting de Vrolijkheid in refugee centres in the Netherlands (AZC Katwijk was the first, AZC Burgum is the second). The coming four years four more NESTs will be started with support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery. ICDI is responsible for the training of the staff, we do the research on the impact of NEST on the children and we support the implementationprocess through advice and supervision.
