ECD course for mid-career professionals in Ankara, Turkey. The course was a collaboration between ICDI, NIHA (Netherlands Institute for Higher Education Ankara) and Sardes and was funded by the Bernard van Leer Foundation. Sardes and ICDI provided the content, whereas NIHA was an exemplary organizer and took care of the smooth running of the course. Once again this year the interest in the course surpassed the available places.
At the end, 40 participants received diplomas accredited by NQA (Netherlands Quality Assessment institute). The course was rated as being of university quality and standard. The course encompassed 20 topics, such as: ‘ECD in the international perspective’, ‘The Golden Triangle: formal, non-formal and informal ECD’, ‘Child Protection Policies’, ‘Child rights and ECD’, ‘Hidden Issues (abuse, neglect, violence)’, ‘Language and Diversity: multilingualism’, ‘Social emotional development’, ‘Inclusion and Diversity’, and ‘Children as Researchers’. The sessions were always interactive and dynamic. The ICDI/Sardes staff and the Turkish guest lecturers served as inspirational facilitators rather than just as teachers.
