This year, the ISSA Conference – one of the most important conferences on early childhood education and care globally – will take place in Leiden, on 18-19 June 2019.
ICDI is happy to announce that we will co-host, with JES Rijnland and GGD Leiden, a pre-conference workshop titled ‘From Hard-to-Reach Families to Easy-to-Reach Services’.
The workshop will take place on 17 June 2019 and aims to facilitate shared learning and exchange on note-worthy practices when working positively and respectfully with ‘hard to reach’ families and communities, with the ultimate goal to support child development and well-being.
The focus is on two pioneering approaches to working with families with young children who may be marginalized. These are: firstly, the award-winning TOY for Inclusion approach, which is designed to address educational segregation and social exclusion of young children and their families (especially those with a minority or migrant background) in seven European countries, and secondly, the approach developed by JES Rijnland, in cooperation with Leiden Public Health Service to support families with young children in the Leiden region who face challenges in thriving or feeling ‘at home’ in ECEC and school services.
