Protect Ukrainian children without family care
March 15, 2022
100,000 children without parental support, who live in orphanages in Ukraine, are facing unprecedented danger during the war in Ukraine. Their lives are at risk.
Alongside 13 NGO's (and counting), ICDI is calling on the international community to protect these children, of which the majority still has living family. Their safety and wellbeing must be paramount in the response to the crisis.
Family strengthening and reunification should be enabled and supported. Without a centralised system to track their whereabouts, safety and well-being, these children risk being trafficked, or abandoned.
We are calling, along with our partners, for robust child protection mechanisms to uphold the rights of Ukrainian children deprived of family care.
