Young people and adults in Ethiopia, Nepal and Pakistan are jointly making action plans to reduce child marriage or that in other ways improve the situation for girls (and boys) in their communities. This is the result of ICDI’s youth-led research method, organized in the context of the Her Choice: Building Child Marriage Free Communities program.
In 2018 and 2019, ICDI and its partner organizations have been piloting the youth-led research approach by first training staff who subsequently trained and supported youth in implementing research with peers and adults. The young people defined their own research topics (related to child marriage), conducted interviews and analyzed the results. Girls and boys worked together in teams and presented the findings to stakeholders in their communities.
Follow-up actions included things like raising awareness through youth-led community theater or youth-adult partnerships in improving safe spaces for girls.
